This is a message from Colts Neck Township Office of Emergency Management.
The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Warning for our area and is in effect from 7 pm this evening to 7 pm Saturday evening.
Blizzard conditions are expected with snow accumulations of 8 to 15 inches and winds gusting as high as 50 mph.
Residents are encouraged to take the following precautions:
· Check and prepare your emergency supplies.
· Secure any outdoor furniture, trash cans or other items that may become air borne during high winds.
· Remove all vehicles from roadways to facilitate snow removal.
· In preparation for potential power outages, stock up on bottled water and/or fill your bathtub with fresh water.
· Should you experience a loss of power, contact JCP&L directly at 1-888-544-4877 or by clicking the “Report Outage” link on www.firstenergycorp.com, or by texting out to 544487.
· And as always, if you need emergency assistance, dial 911.
Travel may be hazardous. We strongly urge all residents to stay home and off the roads for the duration of the storm.
Should the Township experience power outages, comfort stations may be available for residents. Details will be posted on this website.
Also be mindful that when venturing out during or after the storm, snow must be cleared from your vehicle. New Jersey law requires that all drivers must “make all reasonable efforts” to remove snow or ice from their vehicle. This law is regardless of whether the ice and snow are dislodged from your vehicle and is a potential danger to other motorists.
And finally, as a reminder, when clearing snow from your property DO NOT push it into township roadways. This is a code violation and can seriously hamper the ability for emergency vehicles to reach residents if needed.
Please visit this website periodically for updates and additional storm related information. Thank you and stay safe.
