The Shade Tree Commission celebrated Arbor Day with the Annual Tree Sapling Giveway on Saturday, April 23, 2022. 500 saplings were available and all were taken! The Shade Tree Commission would like to thank Eileen Stivala for obtaining the saplings from the NJ Department of Forestry. The Shade Tree Commission was also joined by the Green Team Advisory Committee who handed out Marigold seeds and an informational pamphlet that discussed topics such as Climate Change in NJ, Backyard Habitat, Pollinators, Plastic Pollution and the Green Team Advisory Committee. The Marigold seeds and informational pamphlets were funded by Sustainable Jersey and the PSE&G Foundation. Thank you to Liz Wilk and Brook Crossan for organizing the Marigold seed giveway and the informational pamphlet.

The Colts Neck Shade Tree Commission received official notice from the Arbor Day Foundation congratulating and recognizing Colts Neck Township as a 2021 Tree City USA. The Arbor Day Foundation is celebrating 50 years and stated in their official notice “We are so thrilled that Colts Neck takes pride in creating a community that places unique value on the caring and planting of trees”.
